With profound sadness and immense love, we announce the passing of Vance Lowell Dill, who entered eternal rest on July 23, 2026, at his home in Palm Harbor, Florida, surrounded by cherished family. He was 73 years old.
Born on February 4, 1953, in Waukegan, Illinois, Vance lived a life defined by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a generosity of spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Vance proudly served in the United States Navy. His final duty assignment was aboard the USS Albany. The values of loyalty, dedication, and perseverance that he carried from his military service remained with him throughout his life.
For 52 years, Vance shared an extraordinary love story with his beloved wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Dill. Together they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, unwavering support, and countless cherished memories. Whether they were enjoying time with family, traveling, watching baseball (Go Cubs) or escaping to one of their favorite places, like Key West, Vance was happiest when Cindy was by his side.
Above all else, Vance was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He took immense pride in coaching his three sons throughout their school years, teaching them not only how to play the game, but how to work hard, show respect, and always put family first.
It was during those years of coaching that Vance earned the nickname that would stay with him for the rest of his life: “Red.” Whenever a game got intense and he became passionate on the sidelines, his face would turn bright red. The kids noticed, the name stuck, and before long everyone knew him simply as Red.
To countless children who grew up around him, Red was more than a coach. He was the neighborhood dad. His door was always open, there was always room for one more kid, and he had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Many children found encouragement, guidance, and friendship in Red, and many carried those memories into adulthood.
When he wasn’t coaching or spending time with family, Vance loved being on the water. Fishing brought him peace and happiness, whether he was casting a line with friends, family, or simply enjoying the quiet moments that came with being outdoors. Those who knew him best know that some of his happiest memories were made with a fishing rod in hand and the people he loved nearby.
Vance leaves behind a loving family who will forever honor his memory: his beloved wife of 52 years, Cindy Dill; his sons, Trent Dill (48) and his wife Kala, along with their children Jada, Kyzen, and Avyn; Trevor Dill (46); and Travis Dill (45) and his wife Kristina “Krissie”, along with their son Connor Dill.
He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda Lee Adkins (71) and Judy Parker (69), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, neighbors, and the countless young lives he influenced through his generosity, guidance, and example.
Vance’s legacy is not measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the people who loved him and the lives he touched. He was the steady hand, the listening ear, the voice of encouragement, and the person who never hesitated to help someone in need. His humor, strength, wisdom, and unwavering love for family created a legacy that will live on for generations.
A private ceremony with military honors will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Friday, August 21, 2026.
