Vernon Harold Reffitt, age 83 of Valrico, FL died October 11,2025 at
AdventHealh Hospital in Tampa, FL following a brief illness.
On July 17, 1942 Vernon was born in Mt Sterling, KY. the son of the
late George Henry and Iota Reffitt. His family moved to Muncie, In
when Vernon was a baby.
On April 2, 1959 he married the love of his life Janet (Hartley) in
Muncie, In. Together they shared 66 incredible years of marriage.
Survivors include his loving wife Janet Reffitt, his daughter Sheryl
Baltimore (Steve), his son Randy Reffitt, grandchildren Courtney,
Serena, Brandon, Aiden and Ian and great-grandchildren Mason,
Jayce and Harley. He also leaves behind many other deeply loved
family members and friends in Indiana, Florida and across the
country.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Henry Reffitt,
mother, Iota Reffitt, his siblings Gene Reffitt (Alice), James Reffitt
(Claribell), Henry (Judy), Elmer (Daisy), Sandy (Perry) and Johnny.
Vernon was proudly employed at Chevrolet Muncie for over 30 years.
He also previously worked at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, In.
Vernon retired from General Motors in July of 1992. He and Janet
moved to Florida a few years later.
He also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Alan
Jackson and many other traditional country and gospel singers.
Vernon truly loved watching college basketball, particularly, Indiana
University. He also loved watching Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay
Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning games on TV with Janet.
He also had a great time attending a number of those games in-person
throughout the years.
Vernon also loved sharing special moments with his family at
Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday gatherings. Among his favorite
activities was the wonderful moments eating lunch and having great
conversation while drinking Café con leche at his favorite Cuban
bakery.
Vernon especially loved spending beautiful Florida evenings with
Janet while sitting on the swing under their backyard gazebo.
Early in life Vernon became passionate about fishing and bowling.
He excelled at both. Vernon was also an expert checkers and chess
player, he handily defeated any opponent who was bold enough to
challenge him.
He also had a soft spot in his heart for furry friends. Vernon
cherished his time with the many dogs and cats they owned over his
lifetime including most recently, Gizmo, his little dog with a big
personality who was always by his side.
Vernon was the definition of a hard-working man. A proud American
who lived his life with the utmost integrity and loved his family and
country. He was so proud of the family he built. That legacy will
enable Vernon’s incredibly positive impact to live on for many years
to come.
Vernon Reffitt is deeply loved, truly missed and simply irreplaceable.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday October 23, 2025, at Lake Wimauma Memorial Gardens 5410 North St. Wimauma, FL 33598 .

Lived across the street from him for over 25 years. A good man and a good neighbor.
Oh, we are so saddened by Vernons death. It just doesn’t seem real. There is a loneliness in our hearts that cannot be filled. I know you are so heartbroken Janet. We love you so much. Prayers sweet sister. We can’t be with you on Thursday, but you will be in our hearts and prayers. Vernon was so special to all us. I hope he knew that. Please take care.
