Virginia Miller

Virginia Violet Santullo Miller, age 96, of Fernandina Beach, FL, formerly of Wheeling, WV, and Jacksonville, FL, died September 13, 2018. She was born August 1, 1922, in Lisbon, Ohio, the daughter of the late Frank Samual and Ethel Patterson Santullo.

Virginia joined the U.S. Navy, enlisting as a WAVE in 1943, serving as a Yeoman 1C in the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington. D.C. until the time of her honorable discharge in 1946. When talking about her WAVE years, she would smile and say she made so many wonderful friends and that her short-hand skills were certainly put to good use.

On October 19, 1946 she married Warren V. Miller of Glenville, WV. They initially made their home in Hollidays Cove, WV until Warren’s employment took them to Wheeling, WV. Upon retirement, they moved to Florida.

During her employment years, she worked a variety jobs including: receptionist at a doctor’s office, secretary at Wheeling Jesuit College, and bookkeeping assistant for a construction company.

Virginia, better known by friends as “Ginny”, was the founder of the Wheeling Park Women’s Golf Club, serving as President in the initial years. She was also a member of the Oglebay Women’s Golf Club. She was a unique lady golfer, as Ginny’s golf bag consisted only of woods (no irons) and a putter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren V. Miller in 2014; five brothers, Frank, Raymond, Fred, Fern and William Santullo and three sisters, Ruby, Ruth and Juanita.

Surviving is a son, Timothy Miller and Anita of Jacksonville, Fl; a daughter Jean Martino and her husband Larry of Yulee, FL; granddaughter Danielle Helow and husband Phil of Jacksonville, FL; and two great grandchildren Ethan and Andrew Helow. Virginia will be buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Weirton, WV beside her husband.
