William A. Livingston, 88, of St. Petersburg, died May 14, 2009 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. He was born in Worchester, MA, and moved to St. Petersburg in 1977 from Washington, D.C. Bill served his country as a PFC in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater of WWII, receiving a Purple Heart for battle injuries sustained at Guadalcanal and a Bronze Star for exemplary valor. He was a member of the 1st Marine Division Assn, and was a life member of the Ernie Pyle DAV Chapter #4 in Silver Spring, MD. Bill had a rich career in the golf course industry, being one of the first golf course superintendents nationally certified. Locally, he was the construction supervisor for Mangrove Bay Golf Club and was grounds superintendent at the former Sunset Golf Club, now known as The Vinoy Golf Club. Bill was a life member of the Golf Course Superintendents of America, having been honored with his Permanent Life Membership in 1995. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Null of Bridgeport, CT; his son, David W. of Bethel, CT; his niece, Alli Masse of Deerfield, NH; and three grandchildren. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 11 AM.
