William Alan Brewer (“Al” to all who knew him) age 50 of Charlotte NC, passed away on July 5th, while on vacation in Tampa, FL with his beloved, Jessica Kates.
Al was born October 17, 1970, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to parents William Edward Brewer and Carol Hague-Brewer Lokenberg. The family relocated to Florida when he was five years old, where he quickly adapted to life in the country. Al attended Allen D. Nease High School in St. Augustine, beginning a life-long winning streak as the senior class president and an All-State wide receiver, setting several state athletic records. His talent on the field, and in the classroom, earned him a full athletic scholarship to Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Al took to the field again as wide receiver, #80, for the fighting Salukis. He also discovered a new love of numbers earning a bachelor of science degree in Finance.
Al returned to Florida after graduation where he started his career in the financial sector and mentored aspiring young athletes as a volunteer football coach at his alma mater. He settled in Charlotte, NC working for Bank of America/ Merrill Lynch. Twenty-five years later he was still leading a team as the Director – MSG Sr. Product Specialist.
He will be remembered as a dedicated, loving father to his son Bryce, a passionate sports enthusiast (especially football) and for his love of travel and for taking amazing pictures of the view from the airplane windows. He is survived by his son, Bryce, mother, Carol, stepfather, John, brother Georg, sister Stacey Brewer Thomas, brother Rich, stepsisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
He left the field far too soon and will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Al’s name to benefit the Lavine Children’s Hospital. Atrium Health Foundation, 208 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or online at www.atriumhealthfoundation.org.
I’ve known Alan for over 20 years. The two of us spent 9/11 sitting in his office watching the 2nd tower plane hit. Although I moved to CA 18 years ago, we still spoke regularly and occasionally met up in Vegas or Charlotte to play golf, have fun and talk about our kids. I’m absolutely devastated with a sense of loss of my friend and cannot imagine how his family is coping. Please accept my sincerest condolences and know how proudly he spoke of Bryce. I’m crying typing this and struggle knowing I will not get to see him again.

It was a joy to have coached Al in High School. Great person and great personality. He was in my wedding. I had not spoken or seen Al in years. I was saddened to hear of his death. Prayers go out to his family. Especially his Mother. Be Blessed!!!
