Dear Hall Family –
During the long cold winter of 1979-1980, Laurie and I were snow-bound together in the heart of Yellowstone National Park. As we shoveled snow off the roof of the apartments, and off the roof of the visitor center, and off the roof of every structure in sight, Laurie and I told stories non-stop about our families. In the rare but wonderful event of Laurie and I actually seeing each other, I always ask “… and how is Lorna?”… “… and Marcie?”. We’ve never met… but I feel that we have. I am so sorry to read this news, and am sending my deepest condolences to you all.
Rene
Dearest Rene, Your message is Gold to me. The things you remember! The time spent in Yellowstone during winter, you helped me grow. I was such a lost kid at that time, I was torn up on so many levels, and I’ve also made a lot of mistakes along the way. But I learned we’re not defined by our mistakes, as long as we grow and keep living our best selves. I’ve been doing that. I learned about forgiving my father for not being the Dad so many people had and I was jealous. Meeting your Dad in Sparks, NV, was a true gift. I’ll never forget meeting your parents and how much getting to know you made sense after meeting them. You are a gift to so many and I remain forever grateful for the short time we had together. I’m way up here in Alaska and you’re way down there at the Grand Canyon; yet that connection will never die. Hope to see you down the road dearest. The Lester Family lives forever.
