William Joseph Colangelo Jr., 86, of Pinellas Park, Florida passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 from natural causes. He was born on November, 17, 1934 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to William and Mary Colangelo, he was of the Baptist Faith and moved to the local area in 1980 from Lake Winola, Pennsylvania. William served our nation in the United States Marine Corps being promoted to the rank of Corporal. His awards and decoration and awards include the National Defense Service Medal; Korean War Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the United National Service Medal. He was a file clerk/Chief Clerk in the United States Marine Corps and served overseas. He was Honorably Discharged from the USMC at Camp Pendleton, California on October 10, 1956. After moving to the local area in 1980 and then began his career for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and retired as a Correction Officer.
William was a horticulturist who loved working with his hands. He loved working in the yard, as well as, laying stone and tile. He worked two jobs for most of his life to support his family and his legacy lives on through his children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary (Kubowicz) Colangelo and two brothers: Daniel and Joseph Colangelo and is
survived by his loving family: his wife of 63 years, Judith (Craig) Colangelo of Pinellas Park, Florida; sons, Eric Colangelo and his wife, Kathy of St Petersburg, Florida, David Colangelo and his wife, Norma of Tampa, Florida and Glenn Colangelo and his wife, Marina of Palm Harbor, Florida: two daughters; Amy Homsey and her husband, Jack of Clearwater, Florida and Toni Peeler and her husband Mark of Clearwater, Florida; a sister Beatrice Vitek and her husband, Andrew of Largo, Florida; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Williams visitation is Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 2 till 4 PM at Veterans Funeral Care, 830 North Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33765. There is a service at 4:00 PM at the Veterans Funeral Care on Sunday February 21, 2021 with Pastor Scott Pickle and the Pinellas County Sheriffs Honor Guard. His burial will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 States Road 72, Sarasota, Florida with the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corp Detachment 588 Honor Guards providing full military honors.
