Yvonne Campbell Muncy
Born May 5, 1938 / Passed January 26. 2015
Yvonne, Von, Vonnie, Aunt Von, Mom and Granny she was someone different yet the same to so many people.
The oldest of nine children to Lawrence and Edna Mae (Joseph) Campbell in the tiny holler of Typo, Kentucky. The oldest sister to Betty, Mary, Alice, Dick, Patsy, Penny, Teresa, and Kim. The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she graduated from Hughes High School. She married Gene Muncy in 1959. She had two sons, Chris and Mark; six grandchildren – Rebecca (Muncy) Rudy, Aubrey Muncy, Peter Muncy, Adam Muncy, Beth Muncy, and Callie Muncy; and three step-great grandsons in Mike Rudy, Joe (Jami) Rudy, and Dylan Rudy, plus Gary; a daughter-in-law, Monique Muncy; and the mates to her grandchildren – Charles (Rebecca) Rudy, Richard (Aubrey Muncy) Virola, and Dresden (Peter) Muncy. Nieces and nephews – Victoria, Mitzi, Misty, Ronnie, Lisa, Sol, Joe, and Teri Lynn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Alice (Alley).
She worked for Royal Globe Insurance, Gaston Caperton Group, the Hartford, and then became a manager/trainer for Kentucky Fried Chicken, Hardees, and Bojangles restaurants from New York City to Miami and all parts in between. She trained and worked with hundreds of employees across the south and east. She was the former Vice President of the Women’s Auxillary to North Riverdale Little League. She read, cooked, traveled, drove thousands of miles, loved Elvis music, and finding sand dollars on the beach.
Our family thanks the staff and hard working teams at Bon Secour Maria Manor in St Petersburg for taking care of her the last three years.
No viewing or memorial service will be held, as per her wishes. A private gathering will be held later this year near the beach, and a marker will be placed at the Cyrus cemetery in Smokey Valley, Kentucky next to her husband Gene’s.
For those wishing to send donations or remembrances – we suggest giving to St Petersburg Museum of History, 335 Second Ave N.E., St Petersburg, Florida 33701 in the name of Yvonne Muncy. Or buy some Bailey’s, Skyline Chili, pickled bologna, cornbread in buttermilk, or anything with cucumbers, tomatoes, and lots of onions. Take a friend to lunch or a ball-game or an amusement park – just to see them laugh and smile.
Or you can celebrate the way Von “Granny” Muncy would – call your children or grandchildren or family or friends and tell them they’re wonderful and share a story.
Call your grandchildren and let them bet on the Super Bowl this weekend, if they don’t have the right team near the end of the game, call them back and let them change teams so they win, and then tell others how great they are for picking the winner.
Go to someone’s ball game, play, or ceremony. Tell the world how amazing they are after.
Call your brother-in-law and pick a horse for the Kentucky Derby or call another brother-in-law about Kentucky basketball games.
Go to church after winning something, give most to the church or your kids, and be thankful for what you have.
Work everyday so that your family will have more than you had.
Give your family more gifts and love than they ask.
Never forget where you came from, always want to go back to see your parents and family in simpler times. Smile when you remember, close your eyes, and touch Heaven.
We did because we loved Yvonne Campbell Muncy.

What a wonderful remembrance of Von and the wonderful woman that she was. I will certainly do something in her honor from the above mentioned suggestions. As she always had recently when I visited her at Bon, I now have a big smile on my face. :)
Peace and love to all of Von’s family.
Love, Susan
That was a wonderful description of your Mom and exactly what I remember of her and her wishes for everyone. A fantastic lady that will certainly be missed but leaving as fantastic a family to follow her legacy. Love and Prayers Bill and Linda and mom Hay.
Dear Chris and Monique: Know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Love in Friendship. (Rudy and Charlene Dalton)
Kentucky mountain water, fireflies in May and blackberry cobbler with forever and always say Yvonne Muncy to me. Thank you for being part of my life.
The family is in my prayers.
Our family shared an alley with the Muncy’s and my brothers and the Muncy boys had many good times. She was a good woman. Prayers to all family members.
Such a lovely and loving tribute… My heart is with all of you an especially Mark, Beth, and Callie. May Von’s memory always be a blessing for all of the family.
Love,
Ronni
Rest in peace Von. It was a pleasure knowing you.
Chris, I’m so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I’m sure heaven could use another angel and now she’s bringing smiles to those who passed before her. Love the stories in her eulogy and it reminds me of my family and times in Grundy, Virginia, spending summers exploring the holler behind my grandma’s (and at her warning, staying away from stills and “wolves”), picking up wormy apples off the ground so she could fry them up for breakfast, and remembering how she was always busy pickin’, pickling, canning and puttin’ up for winter. Simpler times and fond memories. Your mom sounds like she was the salt of the earth and her story inspires me to be a better person because I would love to be so fondly thought of and remembered.
Blessings to you and your wonderful family. I’m honored to be a friend of your clan!

I loved finding out that the Muncy’s were coming to Athens, Ohio for a visit when I was a kid! Von and Gene were so much fun and my sister and I enjoyed hanging out with Mark, too. They were such crazy people, they even took my sister and I home with them to spend a few days with them in WV. Von has a special place in my heart as a very loving and caring person who was more excited to go pick blackberries than any other social activity that she could have gone to. I am sad to hear that she is gone, but she was a wonderful friend and touched many people throughout her life.
Chris & Monique,
What a beautiful tribute and celebration of her wonderful life! I have no doubt she’s left quite the legacy filled with laughter and love. God bless you all and may you find comfort in always having the special memories.
Von and Gene were like a second set of parents when My brothers and I spend time away from home with Chris and them. They treatied us all like we were family. Rest in peace Von and it’s good to see your back with Gene again. The Gilberts will always remember you. Prayers to you Chris and your family during this difficult time.
A family Guard remembrance.
While I never met Von, I’ve head some great stories from her niece Victoria over the years. What a great tribute and remembrance your words are to her memory. I will take to heart your closing words. May we all never forget where we came from and purpose to tell someone how wonderful they are at least weekly. May Von’s family find peace during this time and cherish the sweet memories.
Chief, truly sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our prayers as you proceed through this most trying time.
I didn’t know Mrs. Muncy but think the world of her son, Chris and daughter-in-law, Monique. Anyone who raised such a wonderful son and had the great admiration and respect as she did of the two of them must truly be a phenomenal woman. This wonderful tribute speaks volumes and my heart aches for the family but glad her suffering is over and heaven gained such a wonderful angel.
Dear Mark and Girls, Thinking of you with love. Your final words for your Mother are Wonderful! {{{Hugs}}}

What a wonderful remembrance. Steph’s and my thoughts are with you.
What a wonderful eulogy that was written about Yvonne Campbell Muncy. She seemed to be a vivacious and loving woman, and though I did not know her, I certainly can relate to laughing, and enjoying life’s moments with family. My family and I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Muncy for raising such a fine family, and leaving our world a better place then we she arrived in it.
We love you Major & Charles (John), and my family wish your family peace and comfort in your time of loss.
Sincerely,
Ken & Brenda Smiddie, and the Kids.
It was so refreshing to read this remembrance and to see so much of our good friend Chris in the words and in her picture. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family during this time.
I’ve known her since I was only 11. I treated her like she was my own grandmother she did so much for Beth and I driving us to our swim meets in high school or even getting Callie me and Beth arbys once and in a while I will miss you a lot <3
Chris, you did great telling the beautiful story of your Mom’s life. It’s like reading a book and can’t put it down. The memories of your Mom and Dad will live on forever. Our prayers are with all of your families.
Love to all, Bud and Roberta
Von was my trainer at KFC . She was a dear friend and beach buddy. She loved Cuban sandwiches and I had the pleasure of sharing many of those with her . Von will be greatly missed and very well remembered. Condolences to all of her family.
My Aunt Von was a great woman!! I spent many summers at her home in St. Pete she shared with Uncle Gene, and Mark. I have great memories of their home. I caught my first fish there (of course after her or uncle Gene baited my hook with a shrimp), and then watched as her and Uncle Gene cleaned the fish. We would go walk the beach at St. Pete, and use our toes to dig in the sand for Sand Dollars. I last saw her at my Aunt Mary’s home in Florida a few years back. She had drove over, and she spent some time with all of us, and she met my son Grady. I have a great picture of him and his great aunt Von. She is up above with Mammaw, Pappaw, and my Aunt Oopie!! Love You!!
For only you my big sis
When we come to the end of the road And the sun has set for us, we want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free! Miss each a little – but not for long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that all once shared, Miss me, but let each go. For this journey that we all must take And each must go alone; It’s all a part of the Master’s plan A step on the road to home. When each are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go
I love you Von, our soul is free and I know you are at home with family.
